There are some people who imagine that techno songs are so simplistic because it only needs to make people dance, and nothing more beyond that goal. Well, it depends of course. You can make techno to make people dance. And you can confuse techno with club music. But techno has historically branched out into many different directions. And you only need to look at the various sub genres to get a feel of how wide techno has now become. There’s trance, ambient, minimal, dark, industrial, etc. You name it and techno has basically got it. What I’m looking forward to right now is a fusion of techno with classier styles like jazz or classical music. And I don’t mean just using techno instruments like synthesizers to play standard pieces, but a real creative fusion of styles, which experiments with different combinations of sound, harmonies, and rhythmic patterns. For all I know, someone might be doing that already.
